DEPED TO GET P16.5-B FOR 2026 COMPUTERIZATION PROGRAM
THE DEPARTMENT of Education will receive ₱16.5 billion in 2026 for its Computerization Program, part of the government’s intensified push for digital transformation in schools.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez said the funding underscores the Marcos administration’s vision of building a fully online Philippines and a digitalized bureaucracy, with a strong focus on ensuring fast and reliable internet access for students.
“Among the critical lessons learned during the Covid-19 pandemic is that internet connectivity is no longer a luxury but a basic need in advancing education at all levels,” Romualdez stressed.
He urged government agencies to fast-track efforts to expand internet access through the National Fiber Backbone project, which aims to connect schools and communities nationwide.
The Leyte lawmaker also called on telecommunications companies to actively support the government’s digital initiatives, particularly in extending coverage to remote and underserved areas.
“While it is the government’s role to lay down the infrastructure for faster and expanded internet connectivity, telcos also have an important role in making their services more competitive,” Romualdez said.
He added that improving connectivity requires convergence—not just a whole-of-government approach, but also collaboration with the private sector—to give learners the digital tools they need to pursue their dreams.
