THREE YOUTH-FOCUSED BILLS PUSHED IN CONGRESS AS YOUTH WEEK CONCLUDES
AS the nation marked the conclusion of Youth Week, Quezon City 5th District Representative Patrick Michael Vargas introduced three significant bills in the House of Representatives aimed at empowering and educating the Filipino youth.
The first of the proposed measures, House Bill No. 3517 or the Human Rights Education Act seeks to integrate comprehensive human rights education into the curriculum of both public and private schools.
The bill emphasizes the need for young Filipinos to fully understand their rights and the rights of others, fostering a more just and compassionate society.
The second proposal, House Bill No. 3516 or the Compulsory Voter Education Act, aims to instill in the youth the importance of participating in the democratic process.
The measure mandates the inclusion of voter education in schools to help young citizens appreciate their role in shaping the country’s future through informed voting.
Completing the trio is House Bill No. 3519 or the Social Media Education Act, which highlights the importance of educating both students and teachers on the responsible and mindful use of social media.
Vargas stressed the double-edged nature of digital platforms, saying they can be powerful tools for communication and learning, but also pose risks if used improperly.
“Knowledge is the first weapon for the future,” Vargas said.
“Through these legislative efforts, we ensure that every Filipino youth becomes informed, responsible, and mindful—whether in exercising their rights, casting their votes, or navigating social media,” he added.
The three bills reflect an urgent call for institutional support in raising awareness, civic responsibility, and digital literacy among young Filipinos, aligning with the goals of Youth Week to honor and uplift the country’s next generation.
