SENATOR CALLS FOR CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR TEACHERS

FOLLOWING the opening of School Year 2025–2026, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian is calling for sustained support for teachers amid the rollout of basic education reforms.

One of these reforms is the Strengthened Senior High School Program, which will be piloted in 800 schools this school year.

The revised K to 12, also known as the MATATAG curriculum, is likewise being implemented in phases and is set for rollout in Grades 2, 3, 5, and 8.

“Sa ating mga guro nakasalalay ang tagumpay ng mga repormang nais nating ipatupad sa ating sistema ng edukasyon. Kailangang suportahan natin sila upang matiyak nating epektibo sila sa kanilang tungkuling tiyaking natututo ang ating mga kabataan,” said Gatchalian, Chair of the Senate Committee on Basic Education.

Gatchalian highlighted the need for adequate teacher training and the availability of quality teaching and learning materials.

He also stressed the importance of reducing teachers’ workload and streamlining their tasks through the increased use of digital technology.

The senator reiterated the urgent need to hire more non-teaching staff to handle administrative work.
