DBM APPROVES 10K NEW NON-TEACHING POSTS TO EASE BURDEN OF PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS

/ 23 May 2025

IN A MAJOR  boost to the country’s education sector, the Department of Budget and Management has approved the creation of 10,000 new non-teaching positions in public schools nationwide.

The move aims to reduce the administrative workload of teachers and allow them to focus more on quality classroom instruction.

DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman announced the development, noting that the initiative is a direct fulfillment of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s campaign promises to provide stronger support for teachers.

“This is a campaign promise fulfilled by our beloved President,” Pangandaman said.

“From the beginning, President Bongbong Marcos pledged to ease the burden on our teachers by giving them the support they need,” she added.

The newly approved roles will be classified as Administrative Officer II, with a Salary Grade 11, and will be deployed to elementary, junior high, and senior high schools across all regions.

These non-teaching personnel will handle clerical and administrative responsibilities currently shouldered by teachers.

Pangandaman emphasized that the goal is to let educators focus fully on instruction.

“President Marcos wants them to concentrate on delivering quality education — not paperwork,” she said.

“Adding non-teaching staff is a big help — not just in terms of workload, but also for the mental health and overall well-being of our teachers,” she added.

This move follows the recent approval of 16,000 new teaching positions for School Year 2025–2026, reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Philippine education system.

The DBM’s regional offices will issue the corresponding Notice of Organization, Staffing, and Compensation Action directly to the Department of Education’s Schools Division Offices, in line with DepEd’s deployment plans.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the development, seeing it as a vital step toward improving both teaching conditions and the quality of learning in public schools.
