SENATOR VOWS TO REFILE ANTI-TEENAGE PREGNANCY MEASURE

/ 23 May 2025

SENATOR Risa Hontiveros has vowed to refile her proposed measure against teenage pregnancy, along with other inclusive legislative initiatives.

Hontiveros reiterated the urgency of the Anti-Teenage Pregnancy Bill, calling teenage pregnancy a national emergency that demands immediate legislative action.

She lamented the spread of misinformation that has hindered progress, particularly on key provisions such as comprehensive sexuality education.

“It really deserves to be passed — for the sake of our teenagers, our teenage parents, and all other stakeholders who support our youth,” Hontiveros said.

At the same time, Hontiveros affirmed her commitment to pushing for the Dissolution of Marriage Bill and the SOGIESC Equality Bill.

She expressed frustration over the stalled status of the Anti-Teenage Pregnancy Bill, which remains pending on second reading after only two rounds of interpellation.

“If it still isn’t given a chance to move forward — continuation of second reading, interpellation — we will simply refile. That’s my commitment,” she said.

“I really hope that the 20th Congress will finally be the one to pass the SOGIESC Equality Bill into law,” Hontiveros added, pointing out that the measure has been refiled for at least 10 consecutive Congresses without being enacted. The bill seeks to protect individuals against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression.
