SENATOR BACKS SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAMS, URGES FOCUSED, COHESIVE IMPLEMENTATION
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian expressed full support for the Department of Education’s rollout of summer learning programs aimed at improving literacy and numeracy among Filipino students.
However, he stressed the importance of ensuring that these initiatives are targeted and cohesive to effectively address learning gaps.
“I support the Department of Education’s objective of boosting literacy and numeracy to strengthen the foundation of our learners,” Gatchalian said.
While four programs are set to be implemented this summer as part of DepEd’s learning recovery efforts, Gatchalian urged the department to prioritize learners who require urgent academic intervention.
“In implementing programs for learning recovery, it is crucial to ensure that those who need the most help are being reached,” the senator added.
He also called on the education department to ensure that the different summer initiatives are well-coordinated and aligned to maximize their impact on student development.
Gatchalian has long advocated for education reform and has championed stronger programs to address pandemic-induced learning losses.
His latest statement underscores the need for strategic execution as the country continues to rebuild and strengthen its basic education system.
