SENATOR BACKS FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF PARENT EFFECTIVENESS SERVICE PROGRAM TO COMBAT BULLYING

/ 22 April 2025

SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian on Monday (21 Apr 2025) expressed strong support for the full implementation of the Parent Effectiveness Service (PES) Program, a law aimed at strengthening parental involvement in children’s education and character development.

Gatchalian thanked Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara for heeding his call to mobilize the PES Program, which officially lapsed into law in 2022.

He emphasized that empowering parents through education and active participation is crucial in the fight against bullying in schools.

“The PES is one of the key interventions available to us in building the good character of our youth and combating bullying. It is high time we roll it out and hold parents responsible,” Gatchalian said in a statement.

He further underscored the importance of collaboration among schools, communities, and families.

“Kung magtutulungan ang mga paaralan, komunidad, at pamilya, mas mapapatag natin ang pagsugpo sa bullying sa mga paaralan,” he added.

The PES Program provides parents with training on child development, responsible parenting, and community involvement, aiming to equip them with skills that reinforce positive behavior among the youth.

Gatchalian has long advocated for measures that promote safe and supportive learning environments, calling the PES Program a crucial step in addressing the root causes of bullying and ensuring the holistic development of Filipino children.
