SENATOR APPLAUDS ENACTMENT OF EXPANDED TERTIARY EDUCATION EQUIVALENCY AND ACCREDITATION PROGRAM ACT

/ 6 March 2025

SENATOR Joel Villanueva expressed his strong support for the signing of Republic Act No. 12124, known as the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP) Act.

The new law is considered a groundbreaking step in bridging the gap between workers’ skills and academic credentials, opening the door to enhanced career opportunities.

Villanueva emphasized that the enactment of this law is a significant achievement for both the education and labor sectors.

In his statement, Villanueva praised the legislation for its positive impact on working Filipinos, particularly those who have gained valuable skills and experience on the job but have not had the opportunity to pursue formal education.

The ETEEAP Act will enable these workers to have their knowledge and experience officially recognized and credited toward earning a tertiary education degree. This, according to the senator, will ultimately improve their prospects for career growth and better income opportunities.

Villanueva also thanked President Bongbong Marcos for his leadership in recognizing the importance of the measure and signing it into law.

“The passage of this law is a testament to the government’s commitment to addressing the educational needs of the workforce,” Villanueva stated.

He further acknowledged the crucial support of his fellow lawmakers, especially Senate President Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero, for their unwavering dedication to advancing the bill in the Senate.

Villanueva explained that the ETEEAP will not only benefit workers but also contribute to a more inclusive and flexible education system. By recognizing competencies gained through work experience, the law allows individuals to pursue higher education without having to leave their jobs or interrupt their careers. This approach aligns with the modern workforce’s demands, where lifelong learning and upskilling are essential for professional development.

The senator highlighted that the ETEEAP Act could open new pathways for Filipinos to pursue their academic and career goals without the usual barriers associated with traditional education systems.

“Many of our workers have gained practical expertise through years of hands-on experience, and this law will help ensure that their hard-earned knowledge is not left unrecognized,” Villanueva remarked.
