LGU OFFERS VETERINARY TRAINING, OJT PROGRAMS FOR ASPIRING VETS AND SHS STUDENTS
ASPIRING veterinarians and senior high school students can now take advantage of hands-on training opportunities offered by the Quezon City government through expanded veterinary training and on-the-job training (OJT) programs.
The QC Veterinary Department has partnered with Quezon City High School to implement a work immersion program for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students.
City Mayor Joy Belmonte stated that the OJT program aims to help students gain real-world experience and develop necessary technical and professional skills, preparing them for their careers.
“Through this program, we hope to inspire the next generation of veterinarians and animal welfare advocates. By providing real-world training, we are investing in their future and in the health and safety of our community,” Belmonte said.
The initiative reflects the city government’s commitment to education, public health, and responsible pet care.
Additionally, veterinary medicine students from universities and colleges across Luzon can now participate in the QCVD internship program.
The program allows veterinary students to gain experience in animal care, clinical procedures, rabies prevention, spay and neuter programs, and food safety regulations.
The QCVD has already engaged with several universities and is finalizing partnerships through memoranda of understanding.
The department is collaborating with Quezon City University to integrate specialized learning modules into its training programs.
Interns will also gain hands-on experience at the QC Animal Care and Adoption Center in Barangay Payatas, which provides shelter and medical services for rescued animals.
Since 2021, the city government has been operating the QC Animal Care and Adoption Center, which offers temporary shelter and medical services, including surgeries, for rescued animals.
Cabel mentioned that interns will have the opportunity to train at this center, furthering the city’s commitment to animal welfare and veterinary excellence.
“Veterinary medicine goes beyond treating animals—it plays a vital role in public health and food safety. These programs ensure that future veterinarians are well-prepared for their profession,” she said.
