EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT URGED TO RESOLVE EDUCATION SECTOR ISSUES BEFORE BUDGET SIGNING

/ 26 December 2024

SENATOR Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri has expressed hope that concerns in the education sector will be resolved by the executive department before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signs the proposed 2025 national budget into law.

The Presidential Communications Office announced that the ceremonial signing is scheduled for December 30.

“I’m hoping that they address the concerns of the education sector, especially the funding for the computerization of the DepEd,” Zubiri stated.

He also flagged potential constitutional issues, particularly regarding the budget allocation for education no longer being a priority, as well as the zero funding for PhilHealth.

The senator warned that unresolved issues could lead to legal challenges in the Supreme Court, potentially delaying the budget’s implementation.

Zubiri confirmed he will not attend the ceremonial signing. “I’m out of the country then, so I’m not attending,” he said.
