THE Department of Education is considering reducing the number of subjects in the Senior High School curriculum to allow students to focus more on work immersion.
“We must have flexibility in our system. By reducing subjects in our SHS curriculum, students will have more time for on-the-job training or work immersion that industries require, making our senior high graduates more employable, even if they lack extensive work experience,” said Secretary Sonny Angara.
“We’re moving in the right direction by aiming to limit core subjects in the SHS curriculum to just five or six,” he added.
DepEd recently met with academic experts to accelerate the review and streamlining of the SHS program and its subjects.
According to DepEd, the meeting with consultants aimed to gather recommendations on the structure of the SHS curriculum.
Sec. Angara has previously cited international education experts, noting that the Philippines’ basic education curriculum is already crowded.
