/ 18 October 2024

SILLIMAN University is among five universities selected to implement the Rosario-Braid Scholarship for Community Journalism, starting in the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year.

The two-year scholarship, valued at P240,000, is funded by the Rosario-Braid Scholarship Fund, Inc., a joint initiative of the Rosario-Braid family and the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication.

The scholarship seeks to nurture future community journalists with the skills and ethical foundation necessary for effective coverage of local governance.

In addition to financial assistance, scholars receive mentorship, supplementary training, and opportunities for research, reporting projects, and networking.

SU’s first recipient is Genno Gabriel Z. Rabaya, a third-year Mass Communication student and editor-in-chief of The Weekly Sillimanian.

Other scholars include top-performing students from Visayas State University, Bicol University, Mindanao State University, the University of Mindanao, and a graduate student from AIJC.

The scholarship was spearheaded by Dr. Florangel Rosario-Braid, a constitutionalist and AIJC president emeritus.
