SENATOR Christopher Bong Go stressed anew the importance od empowering youth through grassroots sports development, particularly in provinces like Maguindanao del Norte.

The senator made the statement during the Mindanao State University (MSU) Maguindanao Sportsfest, a three-day event that bbrings together athletes and the local community in a celebration of athleticism and unity.

Go advocated for financial support for the event in collaboration with the PSC, to enable the event to run smoothly with the goal of empowering the youth through sports.

“Alam kong malaking bagay para sa mga kabataan ang ganitong mga sports activities. Hindi lang ito para sa kalusugan kundi para na rin mahubog ang kabataan para maging responsable, disiplinado at malusog na mga mamamayan,” Go stated, emphasizing the role of sports in shaping discipline, teamwork, and overall well-being.

The sportsfest at MSU Maguindanao stands out not only for the competitions it fosters but also for the shared camaraderie it builds within the community.

Athletes from different backgrounds, all eager to showcase their talents, find themselves united by a shared goal — to push their limits and to represent their region with pride.

Aside from the financial support, simple tokens, including pens and shirts, among others, were distributed by Go’s Malasakit Team to the organizers, officials, participants, and referees.

Through such initiatives in the grassroots, aspiring young athletes have a chance to sharpen their skills, build character, and experience firsthand the value of discipline and teamwork—lessons that will stay with them long after the competitions have ended.

“Get into sports, stay away from drugs to keep us healthy and fit. Ang sports ay hindi lamang isang paraan para manatiling fit, ngunit ito rin ay mahalaga sa paghubog ng karakter, disiplina ng kabataan upang maging produktibong mamamayan. Sa pamamagitan ng sports, natututunan natin ang kahalagahan ng teamwork, dedikasyon, at pagharap sa mga hamon ng buhay na may positibong pananaw,” Go said.
