CIBAC Party-list Rep. Eduardo “Bro. Eddie” Villanueva has filed a bill aimed at addressing the urgent need for environmental awareness and sustainable practices among the youth in the Philippines.

In House Bill No. 10646, also known as the Eco-Education Act of 2024, Villanueva emphasized the need to equip the younger generation with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to protect and preserve natural resources as the country faces mounting environmental challenges, including climate change, deforestation, and pollution.

The bill mandates the integration of comprehensive environmental education into the curricula of all primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, ensuring that students are well-informed and prepared to adopt sustainable practices.

It also underscores the importance of teacher training and capacity building to effectively deliver environmental education.

“Through regular training programs and workshops, the Department of Education, the Commission on Higher Education, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority aim to enhance educators’ competencies in this crucial area,” Villanueva noted.

Additionally, the measure proposes the inclusion of environmental education in teacher education programs to ensure future educators are equipped to impart this critical knowledge.

The bill also encourages schools to establish partnerships with local governments, NGOs, and the private sector to enhance the delivery of environmental education.
