SENATOR BATS FOR CONVERSION OF EXTENSION CAMPUSES OF CENTRAL PH STATE UNIVERSITY INTO REGULAR CAMPUSES
SENATE Committee on Higher, Technical and Vocational Education chairman Francis Escudero is pushing for a measure converting the extension campuses of the Central Philippine State University in several municipalities and cities in Negros Occidental into regular campuses of the Central Philippine State University.
In his Senate Bill 2671 or the proposed Central Philippines State University Campuses Conversion Act, Escudero cited campuses in the municipalities of Hinoba-an, Cauayan, Ilog, Candoni, Moises Padilla, and Hinigaran, and in the cities of San Carlos, Sipalay and Victorias in Negros Occidental.
Escudero said his bill aims to ensure that CPSU remains capable of providing quality tertiary education and responding to the needs of the province and Western Visayas Region.
The campuses shall primarily provide short-term, technical-vocational, undergraduate, and graduate courses within their respective areas of competencies and specialization.
The university is also mandated to undertake research and extension services and provide progressive leadership in the areas.
Once enacted into law, the amount necessary to carry out the provisions of the act shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.
