THE COMMISSION on Higher Education will work closely with the Department of Education to improve Filipino learners’ performance in international large-scale assessments.
“More importantly, we want to realize the national education vision laid out in the Philippine Development Plan (2023-2028) to ensure that all Filipinos can realize their full potential to keep pace with the envisioned socioeconomic transformation,” CHED Chairperson Prospero De Vera III said in a statement.
It was made after the release of the country’s poor performance in the 2022 Programme for International Student Assessment.
De Vera said that they will expand the Technical Panel for Teacher Education to include DepEd curriculum development and learner assessment specialists along with other leaders in education transformation to address quality preservice teacher education.
“We shall engage Centers of Development (COD) and Centers of Excellence (COEs) in Teacher Education to study further the details of the country report in the hope of framing comprehensive solutions for consideration of the DepEd,” De Vera said.
CHED also expressed its appreciation to Vice President and Secretary of Education Sara Duterte-Carpio for articulating a whole-of-country perspective in addressing the outcomes and implications of PISA.
