ATENEO LAUNCHES MATH APP FOR STUDENTS IN TIME OF BLENDED LEARNING

/ 30 September 2020

THE ATENEO de Manila University launched a web and mobile mathematics application to help students adapt to blended learning amid the Covid19 pandemic.

Known as Mathplus Apps, the application was introduced during a webinar of the ADMU-School of Science and Engineering held last September 25.

Dr. Ma. Louise Antonette Delas Penas, along with ADMU mathematicians, mathematics educators, and software developers, designed the application to create a digital learning environment where learners can develop mathematical reasoning and visual thinking skills.

The Mathplus Apps is research-based and aligned with the Most Essential Learning Competencies of the Grade 1 to 11 mathematics curriculum of the Department of Education.

It can run on moderate system requirements in laptops, tablets or cellphones, and is now freely available for teachers and students.

The team was funded by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development through its Technology Innovations for Mathematical Reasoning, Statistical Thinking and Assessment program.

“We are confident this project can help students manage their own learning, monitor their progress, think creatively and critically, and solve real-life problems,” said DOST-PCIEERD execu-tive director Dr. Enrico Paringit.

“With that, no one will be left behind as students from isolated communities will also have access to these learning resources.”
