FILIPINO teacher scholars are performing well in their courses, the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education – Regional Language Center said.
RLC Center Director Susan Leong lauded the Filipinos’ performance in the in-service language teacher professional development courses.
“My teaching faculty is very happy with the scholars of the Philippines because they’ve always done well and they’re valuable participants of the courses they are in,” Leong said.
RELC, one of the 26 SEAMEO centers in the region, is a language education facility based in Singapore. It offers a wide array of regular and customized courses, trainings, and capacity building workshops for teachers. It also serves as platform for knowledge sharing among language researchers, classroom practitioners and language specialists.
From 2018 to 2023, the center has granted 54 Filipino teachers scholarships for the language teacher professional development courses.
Leong also thanked Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio, who visited the center of June 14, for the Philippines’ active participation in the SEAMO-RELC programs.
Duterte is the SEAMEO Council president.
Leong encouraged Duterte to nominate more teachers for the RELC scholarship programs.
“If we have additional places because other countries’ nominees do not meet the criteria, we are happy to consider the additional nominations from the Philippines,” Leong said.
