LAWMAKER PUSHES EXPANDED TERTIARY EDUCATION SUBSIDY BILL
PROBINSYANO AKO Party-list Representative Rudys Caesar Fariñas I filed a measure that will expand the coverage of the Tertiary Education Subsidy.
House Bill 7477 aims to amend Republic Act 10931 or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.
The bill wants to establish a voucher system for poor but academically competitive students who want to study in private or local government unit-operated tertiary vocational institutions in cities and municipalities with existing state and local universities and colleges and public TVIs.
The measure covers tuition and other school fees, room and board costs, books, school supplies, transportation and other education-related expenses.
In addition, all beneficiaries of the voucher system will continue to receive such benefits or subsidies until they complete their post-secondary education.
“All vouchers issued under the measure shall be used exclusively for the purpose of assisting poor and academically competent students,” the lawmaker said.
