Gilas to restart basketball action as FIBA resumes in bubble setup
Gilas Pilipinas will be soon hitting the hardcourt in a bubble setting as FIBA announced on Friday its plan for the resumption of the continental qualifiers.
The international governing body for basketball released a statement regarding their decision to hold the games in two windows in November 2020 and February 2021.
Following the recommendations from FIBA Medical and Competitions Commission, competitions will be conducted in a bubble instead of the home and away games prior to the cancellation due to the pandemic.
In compliance with the health protocols set by the federation, PCR testing should be done and entry for the venue will be controlled to secure the environment.
In addition, it is recommended that the bubble will consist of four or eight teams in one or two qualification groups.
Before the Asia Qualifiers were halted, Gilas Pilipinas clinched its first game win against Indonesia, running second in the standing following South Korea with a 2-0 record in Group A.
The Filipino cagers will battle three more games against South Korea, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Bubble hosts will be determined at the regional level and will be announced soon.
Before the basketball stars start their scrimmages, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) needs the approval of IATF regarding this matter.
