LUSOT na sa committee level sa Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ang panukala na i-convert bilang state university ang Occidental Mindoro State College.

Inaprubahan ng House Committees on Higher and Technical Education, Appropriations at Ways and Means ang House Bill 7566 bilang substitute bill sa House BIll 262 na iniakda nina Reps. Josephine Ramirez-Sato, Mark Go, Eric Go Yap at Joey Salceda.

Sa kasalukuyan, ang OMSC ay may pitong campuses na nagbibigay ng special program sa research, extension and graduate studies para sa progressive leadership.

“OMSC provides higher professional and technical instruction and training. It caters to more than 4,000 students from different parts of the island of Mindoro and nearby provinces,” pahayag ng mga author sa kanilang explanatory note.

Nakasaad sa panukala na ang conversion ng state college bilang state university ay magbibigay ng mas malaking pagkakataon para sa advance higher education at professional development ng mga estudyante.

“This bill is consistent with the constitutional mandate of the State to establish and maintain a complete, adequate and integrated system of education relevant to the goals of national development,” paliwanag ng mga kongresista.
