Alapag shared with Radyo5’s Power and Play the new development and is ready to probable assume a Kings’ job as he will meet with Sacramento Kings General Manager Monte McNair, Director of Basketball Operations Paul Johnson, and assistant coach Bobby Jackson. 

The “Mighty Mouse” helped the Kings to the NBA Summer League title as he joined the assisting staff under the supervision of coach Jackson.

“I hope I’m closer,” he shared.

The PBA legend was first invited back in 2019 by then the general manager Vlade Divac and his second franchise was after the Summer League.

“They just said they wanted to talk again. But I hope the impression I made in these first two stints with Sacramento, I hope they got a chance to see not only the type of coach I am but the type of person I am, someone who takes a lot of pride in the game and values the opportunities that I do get. Someone who’s ready to come in and work everyday. That’s always the foundation for everything that I’ve done from my time playing to transitioning to coaching. I’m excited on what they have to say and we’ll go from there,” Alapag explained.

He also sees coach Jackson as someone he can always perfectly work on as they always jibe together.

“I hit it off with him. We approach the game the same way, we saw the game the same way. And from the time that I left, he would check in with me and leading up to this summer, they had a mini camp in Los Angeles and he invited me to come down and spend time with the team and that ultimately led to them asking me to join the team for the summer. It’s a huge blessing,” he said.

Alapag also shared his experience as someone who has an active voice to the team and how amazing it is to be in that position.

“It was awesome to have an active voice with coach Bobby Jackson and the rest of the staff. It was a lot of fun, a lot of work. Great group of guys. It was great to see them be rewarded for all the hard work they put in,” the long time Gilas captain shared.

“I’ve had a more active role, sat in front of the bench a couple of times and it kind of blew my mind. It was a proud moment for myself in understanding that it’s not just for myself but the Philippines, as well. It was great to be out there.”
