DEPED STARTS TRAINING TEACHERS AS BROADCASTERS
THE DEPARTMENT of Education has started training teachers on the use of Open Broadcasting Software (OBS) for school year 2020-2021 to ensure delivery of education to learners in their homes.
“Napakaimportante nitong medium na ito pagdating sa pag-deliver ng ating education in these trying times when face-to-face classes are not yet allowed until January 2021,” DepEd Director IV of Information and Communications Technology Services Abraham Abanil said in a webinar on Monday.
Twenty three teacher- broadcasters have already been trained on how to face the camera and conduct video lessons.
However, the DepEd said it still needs to train 30 additional teachers out of the 2,000 applicants for broadcasters.
Abanil said it is important to train the teachers on effective ways to keep learners focused.
“Para hindi ma-bore ang mga bata habang nanonood sila ng TV,” he added.
He also cited the need for Science teacher-broadcasters especially in high school.
A second batch of talents will also be allowed to engage in radio broadcasting.
Audio and video lectures will be available at DepEd Commons and could be downloaded for free as a result of the department’s partnerships with telecommunications companies.
Abanil bared that some lectures will be dubbed in local dialects for use in the provinces and some areas.
DepEd Commons is an online platform for public school which enables the delivery of basic education to learners and supports distance learning modalities which can be accessed at https://commons.deped.gov.ph.
