TO LESSEN the carbon footprint in the fashion industry, the iACADEMY has created a program that aims to produce a new breed of fashion designers who are “environmentally mindful of their works.”

iACADEMY made the move after data from a Greenpeace.org study shows that 58 percent of the Philippines’ groundwater is contaminated, and 21 percent of the pollution came from the textile manufacturing industry.

Also, the UN Environment Program said the fashion industry is responsible for 10 percent of all carbon emissions. The problem bears down to the production of clothes and the manner people are discarding them.

Due to this, iACADEMY introduces its Fashion Design and Technology Program that offers an opportunity to solve the problem in fashion pollution with environmental mindfulness.

iACADEMY made sure that the curriculum of the program not only follows the current trends in the industry but also focuses on preserving the environment.

The school said that it aims not only to create competent fashion designers but also game changers in the industry who are environmentally mindful of their works.

“The bottomline of the problem is sustainability. To solve this, we must realize that Environmental Mindfulness is not just a trend we must follow in the fashion industry but the solution itself that we should embrace. Fashion should not just be about the glitz and glamour but also about making a bold statement in saving Earth,” Eli Gonzales, the Fashion Design and Technology Program Chair of iACADEMY, said.

Vice President for Academic Affairs Cecilia Sy said that the academy is dedicated in creating programs that could help solve world problems.

“Aiming to not only provide different industries with competent professionals, iACADEMY’s goal is to deliver game changers that will create a positive impact to the world. Having said that, we are dedicated to creating and building our curriculum to include ideals that will better solve and deliver us from different world problems,” Sy said.

Aside from its program, iACADEMY has also partnered with Fashion Revolution and Miss Earth Organization in launching several exhibits and events that promote a greener fashion industry.
