PNU, EVSU TO DEVELOP MATERIALS ON TEACHING MATH IN WARAY-WARAY
THE PHILIPPINE Normal University partnered with the Eastern Visayas State University to develop materials to be used in teaching Mathematics in Waray-Waray.
The Commission on Higher Education allotted P2.9 million for the project.
The “Exploration of the Meaning of Lived Experiences among Mathematics Teachers towards the Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education Module Development” project will be carried out in 12 months.
Republic Act 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act requires the use of the mother tongue in teaching Kinder to Grade 3 pupils.
However, this was difficult to implement in Eastern Visayas for lack of training and materials.
According to the PNU, researches in MTBMLE show that the use of the mother tongue in learning is necessary during the early stages of a child’s development.
The PNU team was led by Rosie Conde, Celina Sarmiento, Rosemarivic Diaz and Ma. Luz Rantael.
Meanwhile, the EVSU team was led by Jeffrey Ocay, Lydia Morante, Rosemarie Abacot, Analyn Españo, Ferdinand Abocejo and Mary Ann Balledo.
